Cox looks to go better at Nelson
Rotorua teenager Sloan Cox is looking for redemption at the upcoming Rally Nelson, which runs on 21st-22nd August.
Last year, Cox came to the event with a chance of wrapping up the New Zealand Junior Rally Championship and was second fastest on the opening stage of the event. Unfortunately, over the flying finish he lost control and hit a tree, bringing a premature end to his event.
This year 18-year old Cox comes into the penultimate round of the New Zealand Rally Championship with a strong 29 point lead in the junior championship and will be looking to maintain that position into the final round in Wairarapa just three weeks later.
Cox, along with his co-driving sister Tarryn, will be aiming to write a strong set of pace notes from the one pass reconnaissance that the Nelson event offers. While a good set of notes can provide much confidence and speed on the rally, small errors can have the opposite effect.
Since the previous round at Whangarei, the whole Cox Motorsport crew have been hard at work on the Taslo Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 10 and Sloan is happy with the handling heading into the forestry based event.
Rally Nelson gets underway with a ceremonial start at the World of Wearable Arts (WOW) centre in Nelson on Friday 20th August. On the Saturday, crews will tackle 144km spread across six special stages, with a further six special stages and 111km the following day to wrap up the event.
