The HRCR Open Day in the magnificent surroundings of the British Motor Heritage building at Gaydon proved to be an extremely hectic but rewarding experience with a non stop stream of Dunlop/ WONAGO MSA British Historic Rally Championship contenders queuing up to enquire about the format of the 2011 Pirelli Historic Rally, the third round of the series.

Deputy Clerk of the Course, Brian Kinghorn, was on hand to explain the new format of the rally, which will see the event start right slap bang in the middle of the Kielder Forest complex, thus saving competitors the long 50 mile run out from Rally Headquarters in Carlisle. The new, more compact format of the event will see a reduction in road mileage and an earlier finish to the event.

The event organisers have also taken on board the necessity for competitors, especially the Category Three cars, to change tyres and facilities have been built into the event schedule to enable this.

Speaking at the end of the Gaydon Open day, the Pirelli Historic Rally Media Officer, Ed Graham, commented, “It’s been a very busy day but it is great to feel the buzz of optimism that is coming from the competitors, it looks like it is going to be another successful championship year and we look forward to welcoming everyone to Carlisle in April”.
