Elfyn Evans and co-driver, Andrew Edwards, secured fourth place in the Pirelli International Rally over the weekend (29/30 April).

After an excellent start on day one, which saw the pair in second place, the TEG Sport Pirelli sponsored Subaru Impreza suffered a puncture meaning a drop in time for the Welsh drivers.

Looking back on the rally, Elfyn Evans, said: “We didn’t get off to a fantastic start, but we soon got comfortable and were really pleased to set one of the fastest stage times.

“As soon as we got the puncture, which happened four miles from the end of SS6, it affected the brakes leaving us relying solely on the handbrake. Soon after this, the steering rack became damaged so for the last six stages we had to drive without power steering, which made us rapidly loose time.

“We were hoping for top three or even a win, so we’re naturally disappointed with coming fourth. We have a full testing schedule in place between now and Jim Clark.* It will be the first time I have driven a four-wheel drive car on tarmac.* We got some good results on tarmac last year, so both Andrew and I are looking forward to it.”

The 22-year old driver and his co-driver were holding second place until stage five and set one fastest stage time.
