NICKY’S QUINTON OFFERS

A rally with 44 miles of Wales’s very best forest stages with only 26 road miles? Surely not! That must be the best offer of the year!

But – yes – the BTRDA’s “Best Rally of 2010” returns on July 9th as the Nicky Grist Quinton Stages Rally and, as well as boasting award-winning organisation and prime WRGB stages on and around the legendary Epynt Ranges, this year’s slickly-planned event proposes a mileage format that makes it sound like a single venue rally. Whilst being based at the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells, the start and finish of this year’s re-christened classic will be up on the Ranges themselves, with the action on the smooth stages starting only yards away from the actual start.***

This is the first of many innovations that the Quinton Organising Team are planning in liaison with their inspirational sponsor, Nicky Grist, who is intent on bringing forward a raft of new ideas and improvements to a rally that already has an established reputation for friendliness and quality.

An added bonus will be an invitation to all competitors to be in on Nicky’s Friday evening “Route Note Discussion”, previously only offered to Rally First competitors. After viewing the stages on the Friday afternoon, Nicky and a number of ‘friends’ – including multiple British champion Mark Higgins – will be giving their views on how the stages should be best tackled the following day – an invaluable guide to success on the event itself.

Availing themselves of this unique opportunity will be some of the young stars from the MSA Academy, who will actually be allowed to recce the stages on the Friday to gain further experience of making pacenotes, before actually competing on the rally itself the following day. Needless to say, they will not be handing in their timecards at the end of the event, but they will be given an invaluable insight into what is needed for success in top-flight rallying over what many view as some of the best gravel stages in the world.

Regulations for the Nicky Grist Quinton Stages are now available to download from the Club’s website: www.qmc.org.uk or via Entries Secretary Nick Jones on 0121 503 0506.
