The Rally Queens continued their unbroken run of podiums in the 2012 Kenyan National Rally Championship when Samira Khan and Chantal Young brought their Ford Escort home second in the Classic Cup on the recent Kisumu Rally. Samira made it a Khan family one two, finishing behind her Uncle, Aslam, who won the division in his Porsche 911.
Samira headed to Kisumu with high expectations as this was the rally where she made her driving debut last August. And in an almost mirror image event the Kenyan Airways pilot once again brought her Ford Escort home in second position, exactly the same result as the last time she had rallied in Kisumu! After the area had been plagued by heavy rains in the weeks preceding the event the Rally Queens would face all sorts of obstacles, including large mud holes waiting to catch the unwary. But for Samira, who had beaten the odds by completing the entire route of last Novembers very muddy East African Classic Safari, the mud holes, high speed sections and many jumps were just part of the fun. Samira; another podium position in the trusty Escort is just fantastic! The route was great and the rally well organized – some people said it was rough but then they didn’t do the Classic Safari last November! Chantal was once again brilliant and we had a lot of fun! I’d like to say a huge thanks to everyone who helped us – especially Mike Mwangi and MMSport – once again the Escort didn’t miss a beat!
The next round of the Kenyan National Rally Championship is the jewel in Africa’s crown – the world famous KCB Safari Rally! This three day event takes place over the weekend of 9 and 10 June and draws top class competitors from across the continent.
