Landrover Discovery 2 TD5

So after selling the Impreza a year ago, I went back to my first love of landrovers.

First a bit of history....

My first car was a series 3 petrol truck cab landrover which I bought and bodged back together when I was 16.





Used it off road as much as on road and she took a fair bit of abuse! Sadly at an event in Armoy, I launched it out of a deep hole at several knots and when I landed, I ended up splitting the chassis at the engine block! Despite that it drove the 40 odd miles home and I got most of my money back by breaking it.

Then I got myself a cleaner one more or less the same model but diesel this time. It was less powerful but way more torquey and proved to be less of a hooligan off road. And yes, hair today, gone tomorrow and believe me, I've heard all the jokes (most of them at the time when I thought bollywood was cool lol)

Then I discovered wine, women and song, sold everything, bought a nova and passed some liquid up some walls and blew any cash I had lol

Surprisingly only a couple of years of that, a 323 gti, a mini and a couple of cavaliers later, I went back to landrovers and enjoyed a bit more comfort but equal amounts of off road fun

Then after a couple of years of driving the 200 tdi discovery you see above, insurance started to become a killer. I was about 23 at the time and paying over 1600 quid which I realised was ridiculous.

Drove all sorts of motors after that, fords, audis, classic triumph, more vauxhalls, a stray polo, a four trak and some others I won't bore you with. The Subaru was the longest I'd ever owned a car, but even that couldn't stop me going back to my first love.

So last August I bought a 2003 discovery 2 td5. It was mechanically sound, but bodywork was scratched and a few dents, but just what I needed as I wanted to go off road again.

When I bought it...

First thing I did was clean up and rustproof the chassis

Used her last summer to do some caravaning and had the family out on benone a few times, was good craic along with Jonny Scott

Then the modding commenced after the bug had bit again! First was to change the wheels from 18s to 16s so I could run some high profile mud terrains to replace the all terrains she was on which wouldn't cut much mustard off road

After having driven so many miles in "normal" cars, it did take me a while to get into the landrover style of driving again, so this made me laugh last year


But once the art is mastered again, its like riding a bike

Even my son got interested as he never really warmed to my Subaru if i'm honest (think he was jealous as it got more attention then him at times lol)

Came into its own during the heavy snow
