Default Catalitic converter / ecu remap

[ball licking mode on] Hi folks, wondering if you can help.
I bought the 2006 wrx sti in November with decat pipe and nur spec exhaust (also upgraded fuel pump and pipercross panel filter)
It was remaped by someone in the mainland. No idea what ecu or what its mapped too (claims of 345bhp) but been told by others who drove it...."definately not standard"

I know i will need a cat for the mot and yes my mot isn't due untill November. But its something i'd like to sort out asap.

    So a few questions:

    1. sports cat or standard (assuming the standard will just be used for mot and the sports cat as a permanent fix)

    2. will the car throw up warning lights when a cat is fitted (as the car has been remapped without one)

    3. Will it therefore need remapped? (and would this cost £300 od for this tweek)

    4. Assuming i have an ECUtek, is there anyone (apart from JGM coming over) who can sort out the remap?

    5. If/when the emmisions testing comes back will a sports cat pass? (i've been told they have to be very warm for them to pass and that they might only pass 1 years MOT.)

Many thanks to this great community of subaru fans in advance

Stick a standard cat back in for the mot and drive it easy while it's in.

The ECU history points to one company but they assure me they didn't map it. Documents were forged from someone who worked there (and owned the car before me). They don't doubt the work was done by the guy, but it just wasn't done by the company.

so as long as the car is easy driven (as in not boosted) while the cat is on it won't have any map/ecu issues?

yeah thought about that too. maybe when i sort out this problem though. Apparently the car was mapped at A.D.Edmundson in Lancashire. They told me its the standard ECU and when they first mapped it, it had 330bhp with about 380torque but that the previous owner had it mapped again with 350ish bhp and 400torque.
The previous owner also said it has a "custom/open remap so you don't have to pay for the licence"

    still confused if i'm honest...

For what its worth, the map can be copied off the ecu and opened to see what boost etc it has been set to. Options regarding sensors etc can also be enabled/disabled. Open Source is pretty handy if you need to make small changes often as it only costs the price of the cable (and knowledge obviously).

Haha, I tried a aquare plate on the back of mine but it didnt look right, I think the bumper needs to have been made with it in mind.

I'm not gonna lie.... I have no idea what that means. So I have an open source ecu?? Can any ecu specialist work with it then?

Nothing wrong with open source other than it has no back up of who does what with it. Far too many people who don't know what they're at playing with open source leading to bad things. Ecutek at least has a dealer base whereas open source is like saying to your backstreet wannabe mechanic swinging your distributor to advance your timing and saying yeah don't worry it'll be fine. Don't get me wrong there are plenty of reputable guys using open source. It's s big concern for the yanks as they don't like paying for licences etc.
